Influenza A outbreak declared at long-term care home

FORT FRANCES -- An Influenza A outbreak has been declared at Rainycrest Long-Term Care Home, affecting its east and west wings.

According to a news release from Riverside Health Care on Tuesday, visitation is now limited to two people at a time, who are asked to see only one resident per visit.

Currently, Riverside Health Care has masking protocols in place across all facilities.

At Rainycrest, medical masking is required for all visitors, and staff may require visitors to wear additional personal protective equipment depending on the circumstances.

Masks are available at the entrances and throughout the facility.

Visitors are urged to conduct a self-screening before entering facilities.

Individuals experiencing flu-like symptoms are asked not to visit at that time.

There are currently restrictions on admissions, transfers, and discharges.

Large group social activities for residents on the affected wings are cancelled until further notice.

The care home is also emphasizing the importance of hand hygiene and asking the public to be mindful of exposure risks.

The Outbreak Management Team will continue to monitor the situation. The care and safety of our residents, team members, and families are a top priority.

"We understand that when outbreak protocols are implemented, particularly during the holiday season, these measures can be challenging for everyone," the release said.
