Man grievously hurt in road mishap at Hastings Crossing

A 27-year-old man was seriously injured in a road accident at Hastings crossing in south Kolkata early on Friday morning.

The injured has been identified as Bikash Mahato, who was seated on the left side of the rear seat of a private car at the time of the mishap. Police said the car was being driven by Bikash's elder brother, Bisal Mahato. Two other youths were also travelling in the vehicle. The group had reportedly set out from Metiabruz around 5 a.m. to visit a relative in the Hastings area. According to police sources, the private car collided head-on with a lorry carrying poultry that had entered the wrong lane near the crossing.

The impact of the collision was severe, causing the car's airbags to deploy immediately. Investigators suspect that the private car was also being driven at a high speed. Following the accident, the driver of the poultry-laden lorry fled the spot and remained absconding. Bikash Mahato was rushed to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. The Hastings police have initiated an investigation into the incident and are searching for the lorry driver.
