Gloucester's Winter Warmer Festival stars Celia Imrie and David Olusoga

A DIGITAL history festival is inviting audiences to warm up winter nights with talks from leading historians and public figures.

The Gloucester History Festival's Winter Warmer Digital Festival will feature a line-up of 70 historians, writers, broadcasters and politicians in a packed online programme.

The schedule includes highlights from the 2025 spring and autumn festivals, along with archive events curated by festival president and TV historian Professor Janina Ramirez.

Among the headliners are Celia Imrie and David Olusoga, who starred in the record-breaking TV show Celebrity Traitors, alongside comedian Frank Skinner, historian Professor Alice Roberts, and former BBC correspondent Martin Sixsmith.

Janina Ramirez said: "The Winter Warmer is the ideal chance to satisfy your curiosity and enrich your mind during the dark winter nights.

"And if there's a history buff in your life, tickets to some - or all - of the events make the perfect Christmas present."

The line-up includes international journalist Lyse Doucet, Horrible Histories' Greg Jenner, novelist Sebastian Faulks, royal expert Tracy Borman, interior designer Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen and historian Olivette Otele.

A panel of senior politicians -- Michael Heseltine, Jeremy Hunt, Vince Cable and Alan Johnson -- will also take part in the winter programme.

The digital festival will showcase highlights from the Spring and Autumn 2025 editions of the Gloucester History Festival, along with carefully curated events from its archives.

Three previously unseen talks will be made available online for the first time.

Tickets are now available through gloucesterhistoryfestival.co.uk.

Individual events are priced at £7, while a Winter Warmer Pass offering access to all 50 events is available for £32.

The festival is organised by the Gloucester History Trust Charity.

The Gloucester History Festival is known for bringing together leading thinkers, historians, and public figures for in-depth discussions, talks, and interviews exploring the stories, people, and ideas that have shaped the past and continue to influence the present.
