'The Fantastic Four: First Steps' Star Confirms What We Wanted to Hear About The Thing

The Fantastic Four: First Steps is still months away from its premiere and Marvel Studios hasn't done a proper first reveal, outside the official synopsis and some artwork teases. But that doesn't mean there haven't been news, rumors, leaks, and at least one very recent confirmation from co-star Ebon Moss-Bachrach about his character, Ben Grimm / The Thing.

Moss-Bachrach was on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and when host Kimmel asked different questions about The Fantastic Four, the actor was candid, up to a point. He explained a little bit about how they're bringing The Thing to life, but avoided any potential rumors, particularly if he'd be willing to discuss if Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom shows up: "It's not gonna happen! I've been through rigorous media training."

Kimmel did ask an important question that long-time Fantastic Four fans have been wondering, and that's if Ben Grimm's famous line is uttered, "It's clobberin' time!" And Moss-Bachrach confirmed, "I slipped it in there a couple of times. We'll see what happens. I don't have final cut on this one, so we'll see.

He discussed the motion capture process, and whether he has actually seen a full render of The Thing:

"I have seen a very crude rendering because it takes a while to build this stuff. I wear a motion-capture suit [with] two cameras right here, so they're capturing absolutely everything. Every nuance, every expression, every thought in my eye.

"They have a room called the magic mirror where you put on the motion-capture suit and sensors, and then they set up monitors, and you can see, in real-time, a beta rendering. You can see the physics and how big the character is."

The Bear actor also confirmed that Andy Serkis and his company, Imaginarium, were present during production at Pinewood Studios in England. You can watch the entire interview between Moss-Bachrach and Kimmel below.

And despite the lack of an official first image and trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, there have been interesting news tidbits. Julia Garner, who plays Shalla-Bal / Silver Surfer, recently teased about the scale of the film: "It's a big universe, and I feel so grateful I get to be a little part of it, to be honest."

Overall, the cast and crew have been quite tight-lipped about the film, which is directed by Matt Shakman (WandaVision) from a script by Peter Cameron, Josh Friedman, and Jeff Kaplan. Joining Moss-Bachrach's The Thing and Garner's Silver Surfer are Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards / Mister Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm / Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm / Human Torch), and Ralph Ineson (Galactus).

The Fantastic Four: First Steps is scheduled to open on July 25, 2025.
