This summer saw several movies prove popular in theaters, with the likes of the live-action Lilo & Stitch remake and Jurassic World Rebirth flying high in the box office ranks. Perhaps one rung below this top tier in terms of financial success, currently sitting in eighth in the global 2025 box office ranks, is Joseph Kosinski's F1, the pulse-racing drama starring Hollywood mainstay Brad Pitt. After earning plenty of acclaim from both critics and audiences, F1's success might not yet be done, with the film touted for potential Academy recognition at the 2026 ceremony.
Ahead of the movie's possible Oscars run, one of Pitt's Academy Award-winning projects is available to stream for free. Edward Zwick's Legends of the Fall is currently available to stream on Pluto TV, although you'll have to hurry to catch the Western epic as the film is expected to leave the platform next month. Starring Pitt alongside the likes of Anthony Hopkins, Henry Thomas, and Aidan Quinn, Legends of the Fall's stacked cast helped it earn a trio of Academy Award nominations, losing in the Best Art Direction and Best Sound categories, but walking away with a Golden Statue for Best Cinematography. A favorite of many Pitt fans, a synopsis for Legends of the Fall reads:
"In early 20th-century Montana, Col. William Ludlow (Anthony Hopkins) lives in the wilderness with his sons, Tristan (Brad Pitt), Alfred (Aidan Quinn) and Samuel (Henry Thomas). Eventually, the unconventional but close-knit family encounters tragedy when Samuel is killed in World War I. Tristan and Alfred survive their tours of duty, but, soon after they return home, both men fall for Samuel's gorgeous fiancée, Susannah (Julia Ormond), and their intense rivalry begins to destroy the family."
Was 'Legends of the Fall' a Box Office Hit?
The movie was a success with audiences and at the Academy Awards, but did Legends of the Fall prove a financial triumph? The answer is a resounding yes, with the film's reported $30 million budget returned fivefold thanks to a global haul of $160 million. Split between $66 million in domestic revenue and a further $94 million from overseas markets, the film finished 1994, a year widely considered to be one of the best in cinema history, as the 17th highest-grossing title worldwide.
