International manager gives update on 'superb' Liverpool player after injury worry, 'he's fine'

Liverpool have made themselves the team to beat once again after starting their Premier League campaign off in perfect fashion.

The Reds have earned nine points from their opening three top-flight games, with players such as Hugo Ekitike becoming the stars of the team.

And, now that players such as Alexander Isak are also among their ranks, Liverpool have an even better chance of retaining the Premier League title.

At the moment, the only injuries that have affected the team are at right-back, with all three of the usual options already getting ruled out.

In the end, Dominik Szoboszlai was deployed at right-back and while he isn't as fast as players such as Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley, his keen eye for goal and his defensive contributions more than make up for it.

Even though the Reds' injuries have worked out this time, if a player were ruled out in a position that has less depth in it, it would be a whole different story.

One player who Liverpool can't really do without is Alexis Mac Allister.

This season, the Argentine has already missed a hefty chunk of the campaign, and although players such as Florian Wirtz and Curtis Jones can fill in for him, the Argentine's creative spark is massively missed.

The centre-midfielder has quickly become one of Arne Slot's most important players, which is why the recent update on his fitness from Argentina's manager, Lionel Scaloni, will be music to Liverpool's ears.

"Regarding the presence of Mac Allister, the coach admitted that the midfielder isn't 100 per cent fit, but hinted that he'll be among the starters because he's fine," he said in quotes relayed by ESPN Argentina.

The fact that Mac Allister has been dubbed a "superb" player by Alan Shearer and Glenn Murray is all that needs to be said about the midfielder.

The Argentine was signed by Liverpool for a fee worth around £35million, which, for a player of his quality, is a steal.

Not only is his range of passing crucial to the way that Liverpool start a lot of their attacks, but his work rate is sorely missed when he isn't starting.

As mentioned, Jones can also be used in Mac Allister's position, and even though he runs like there's no tomorrow, he's still nowhere near Mac Allister's quality.

The former Brighton man's injury history has been a tad worrisome over the last few weeks, and, even though he isn't 100 per cent fit yet, it's still a good sign that Scaloni is including him among the starters.

At the moment, it's anyone's guess what could happen upon his return to Anfield, but if Mac Allister is fit enough to play, it would be a massive shock not to see him starting for Liverpool in their next game against Burnley.
