Fazilka: Fazilka police arrested two gangsters after a brief exchange of fire on Tuesday night near Ladhuka village. Both gangsters were shot in the leg and were taken to the govt hospital in Fazilka for treatment.The police said the gangsters were identified as Balwinder Singh alias Mahipreet alias Billa, a resident of Bhathal Bhai village in Tarn Taran district, and Karamjit Singh alias Karan, a resident of Mithey village in Ferozepur district. The police recovered two pistols and five live cartilages from them.Police said they demanded Rs 5 crore from a hotelier, and later fired gunshots outside his premises. Giving more information, Fazilka SSP Gurmeet Singh said on Aug 28, firing took place outside a hotel, after which the police registered a case. He said, "On Aug 31, firing took place outside the hotel again. The police engaged intelligence sources to probe the matter." SSP Singh said that when the accused were about to fire at the hotel again on Tuesday night, the police signalled them to stop. "But the shooters started running away after firing at the police party. The police retaliated, in which both the accused were shot in the leg. Illegal weapons have been recovered from the gangsters, who were apprehended by the police."He said the accused demanded Rs 5 crore from the hotel owner. The police admitted both the shooters to the hospital for treatment, and their condition is stated to be stable, said the officer.
