DermaRite added dozens of more products to its voluntary recall last month due to potential contamination.

More personal care products from the manufacturer DermaRite Industries LLC have been voluntarily recalled due to potential contamination risk.

The initial recall was announced by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Aug. 9, which included four products that were distributed nationwide.

Weeks later, DermaRite announced an expanded list of products on Aug. 27 that were recalled "out of an abundance of caution" due to a potential Burkholderia cepacia complex contamination.

The company shared an update about the recall in a Sept. 8 press release, which read in part, "Our team has been working diligently to assist impacted customers as a result of this voluntary product recall, and we are actively implementing measures to ensure resolution."

"We recognize the impact this situation may have caused and sincerely regret any inconvenience," the statement read. "Restoring full product availability is our highest priority."

Here's everything to know about which DermaRite products were recalled and what to do if you've used the affected products.

DermaRite issued a recall for several products due to potential Burkholderia cepacia complex (Bcc) contamination.

"Burkholderia cepacia complex in these products may result in serious and life-threatening infections if the products are used by immunosuppressed individuals or by people attending to immunosuppressed individuals," DermaRite shared in a statement.

The bacteria can also affect healthy individuals, with DermaRite sharing that using the product with minor skin lesions "may result in local infections." However, for those who are immunocompromised, the infection can spread to the bloodstream, "potentially leading to life-threatening sepsis."

On Aug. 27, DermaRite released a statement that announced the voluntary recall was expanded to additional products.

The recalled products, which were all set to expire on or before August 2027, include:

The full list, including item numbers, are available on DermaRite's website and listed out by the FDA. The company also compiled labels from the affected products.

DermaRite also clarified in its Sept. 8 statement that the recall did not apply to all products it manufactured and excluded any wound care or nutritional products.

The recalled products from DermaRite were distributed across the United States and in Puerto Rico.

All distributors and customers were notified to examine current inventory and destroy any affected products.

Burkholderia cepacia complex -- known as B. cepacia or Bcc -- is a group of bacteria that can cause infections in healthcare settings, per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Bcc is found in soil and water, and can cause several symptoms, including fever, fatigue and respiratory infections, especially for individuals with cystic fibrosis or other chronic lung disease.

The bacteria can spread due to exposure from soil, water and watery environments, contact with contaminated equipment or surfaces, as well as person-to-person, though this is more common with individuals who have cystic fibrosis.

Treatment for Bcc typically includes antibiotics, though many Bcc germs are antibiotic-resistant, making treatment more difficult.

DermaRite advises that consumers should contact their doctor or healthcare provider if they have experienced problems that could be related to taking or using the affected products, or if they have questions about whether the recalled products were used in their facilities.

Consumers should also report any adverse reactions or quality problems with the use of the affected products to the FDA's MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program.

This can be done online through the FDA's website, or by mail by downloading a form on the website or calling 1-800-332-1088 to request a reporting form.
