FBI says iPhone, Android users should stop texting each other. Here's why

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV/Gray News) - The FBI is warning iPhone and Android users against texting each other after a recent Chinese cyberattack.

The agency stated that the hacking campaign, "Salt Typhoon" carried out one of the largest intelligence compromises in U.S. history, with numerous calls and texts stolen from more than 100 government officials.

Due to the latest hack, the FBI has sent a warning to iPhone and Android users to stop sending texts to each other.

The agency said Android-to-Android and iPhone-to-iPhone messaging is secure, while one-to-the-other is not.

The FBI encourages people to use encrypted messaging and phone calls on apps like WhatsApp to protect their information.
