Westwood pulls away from Dumont in N1G2 first round - Baseball recap

Fourth-seeded Westwood bounced back from ceding a run in the top of the first inning by tying the game up in the bottom half of the frame and rattling off six unanswered runs in total to pull ahead of 13th-seeded Dumont and secure a 6-2 victory in the opening round of the North Jersey Section 1, Group 2 Tournament in Washington Township.

Westwood's victory advances it to the quarterfinal round where it will host fifth-seeded Mahwah, winners by a 14-4 margin against 12th-seeded Demarest. Westwood swept a home-and-home series against Mahwah during the regular season, earning victories of 10-9 and 11-2 on April 28 and 30 respectively.

Gabe Arcieri drove in three runs in a 2-for-3 day at the plate while Charles Sarlo recorded two RBI.

Joe Ceritelli handled the bulk of Westwood's pitching duties, ceding one earned run on four hits and four walks while striking out two Dumont batters across six innings. Connor Stewart struck out one in a scoreless inning for Westwood (16-9).
