DENVER -- Tanner Gordon was excited to pick up his first major league win.
That it came against the New Yankees only made it better.
The former Champaign Central star gave up two runs in six innings to help the Colorado Rockies surprise the Yankees 3-2 on Friday night.
The victory by 9-42 Colorado (.160) over the AL East-leading Yankees (.612) tied the second-largest winning percentage disparity for a team at least 50 games into the season in the expansion era, according to Elias Sports Bureau.
It was a long time coming for Gordon, who made his major league debut with the Rockies last July. Entering Friday's game, he was 0-7 with an 8.19 ERA in his career.
"It was really exciting, to say the least," Gordon told the Denver Post. "Going up against a team like the Yankees, you think you've got to be perfect and you've got to hit all your spots. But then you remember you have a really good defense behind you, and that's kind of what took the pressure off my shoulders."
