GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - A Democratic candidate is seeking to challenge Congressman Greg Murphy in North Carolina's 3rd Congressional District in the November election.
Allison Jaslow, an Army veteran, is looking to upset Murphy and flip the seat to Democratic control next November.
Jaslow served as a captain in the Army, completing two tours in Iraq and receiving the Bronze Star for service and an Army Commendation Medal.
After her military service, Jaslow continued working on Capitol Hill, in the White House and in leadership roles, leading a post-9/11 veterans advocacy organization.
As CEO of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, she drove conversations about issues that the nation's newest generation of war veterans care about, including the need to modernize the VA.
"I especially know what it is like to work on the edge of what everyone is feeling right now. It's that it is really hard to get by and because I have that personal experience I will fight day in and day out to make life a little easier for everybody," Jaslow said.
Jaslow said she is running for Congress so that everyday North Carolinians have a voice they can count on in Congress to represent them in Washington.
Jaslow will have to win a primary fight first. Raymond Smith Jr. has also filed as a Democratic candidate in the race.
