Presidency speaks on video announcing US troops' arrival in Nigeria - Blueprint Newspapers Limited

The Presidency has dismissed a viral video circulating online which claims that United States troops have arrived in Nigeria following threats of possible military intervention by US President Donald Trump.

The Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, described the claim as false.

He was reacting to a video shared by a user identified as @Italian_Spencer, who captioned it: "Breaking News: US Army lands in Bonny Island, Rivers State! Donald Trump wasn't playing around."

The clip, which has attracted thousands of comments, shows uniformed foreign soldiers beside inflatable boats on a riverbank, though the location could not be verified.

The viral post came amid Trump's recent remarks suggesting possible US action in Nigeria.

Earlier in the week, Trump declared Nigeria a "country of particular concern" over alleged persecution of Christians and directed American lawmakers to investigate the matter.

He also warned that the US could suspend aid to Nigeria and might consider military intervention if the attacks on Christians continued.

The Presidency, however, urged the public to disregard the video, stressing that no foreign troops have landed in the country and that Nigeria's territorial integrity remains intact.
