Moov Africa holds 43.79% of Burkina Faso's mobile market, behind Orange.
Moov Africa Burkina Faso unveiled on November 4 its priority projects for the country's digital development. A delegation from the Maroc Telecom subsidiary, led by CEO Mohamed Karim, met with Aminata Zerbo/Sabane, Minister of Digital Transition, Posts, and Electronic Communications, to present the company's upcoming initiatives.
Key projects include expanding network coverage nationwide -- particularly in unconnected areas -- advancing e-government, and promoting financial inclusion through mobile payments.
"We aim to extend network access to unconnected zones so that every Burkinabè can benefit from quality Internet and reduce cash use through mobile payments," said Karim. He added that the company's goal is to deliver "high-tech services accessible to all at affordable prices."
Moov Africa reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Burkina Faso's digital transformation. However, many of these initiatives closely align with those announced months earlier by its main competitor, Orange. In May, Orange revealed its five-year roadmap focused on improving service quality, lowering pricing barriers, and expanding digital infrastructure, as well as strengthening expertise in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence.
According to the Electronic Communications and Postal Regulatory Authority (ARCEP), Moov Africa had about 12 million mobile subscribers as of December 31, 2024, representing a 43.79% market share, behind Orange (46.02%) and ahead of Telecel (10.18%). In the mobile Internet segment, Orange remains dominant with 9.8 million subscribers, accounting for 51.05% of the market, followed by Moov Africa with 39.47% and Telecel with 9.48%.
