It's been 18 years since the infamous Amanda Knox case first made headlines. And over a decade later, her story has become the center of the newly released Hulu series, The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox.
On August 20, the first two episodes of the limited Hulu series premiered on the streaming platform. And it didn't take long for the drama series to earn a stop in the platform's "Top 15 Today" list. Right now, The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox sits at the number two spot on the list, trailing behind the new sci-fi horror prequel, Alien: Earth. The Amanda Knox-inspired series shares the list with notable titles like Bachelor in Paradise, John Wick: Chapter 4, The Monkey, The Devil Wears Prada, Hurricane Katrina: Race Against Time and General Hospital.
The limited drama series tells the story of Amanda Knox, who was wrongfully convicted of the murder of her roommate while studying abroad in Italy in 2007. Though Italy's highest court exonerated her in 2015, she spent a total of four years in prison. Executive produced by Knox and Monica Lewinsky, the eight-episode show stars Grace Van Patten as Amanda Knox, Sharon Horgan as Edda Mellas (Amanda's mother), John Hoogenakker as Curt Knox (Amanda's father), Francesco Acquaroli as Giuliano Mignini (the lead prosecutor of the case) Giuseppe De Domenico as Raffaele Sollecito (Amanda's then-boyfriend).
Though Hulu just released the first two episodes of the series, The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox is performing pretty well on Rotten Tomatoes. So far, critics have given the drama series a 74% Tomatometer score. As more episodes become available to watch, the score could go up or down. Plus, an audience score is currently not available yet, and that should change in the next few days. But so far, the show is off to a good start.
Where Is Amanda Knox Now?
After serving her four-year prison sentence before being acquitted in 2011, Amanda Knox left Italy and returned to her hometown in Seattle, WA, where she currently resides with her husband, Christopher Robinson, and their two children. She has written two memoirs about her case: Waiting to Be Heard (2013) and Free: My Search for Meaning (2025). Since her exoneration, Knox has visited Italy on several occasions. Most recently, in 2024, she returned to Italy and stood before an Italian courtroom to help clear her name.
In an exclusive interview with TODAY, Knox opened up about what led her to produce the Hulu series The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox. According to the mother of two, she shared that the birth of her oldest daughter, Eureka, inspired her to tell her side of the story. As she told the outlet:
"I now was faced with the prospect not of just trying to make the most of my own life, but also being the shepherd of this young girl who was going to emerge into the world, and I did not want the dark cloud hanging over me to inadvertently hang over her. I felt like this sudden sense of urgency to figure it out -- to find closure, to feel like I was not just running from this horrible thing that had happened to me, but was really confronting it."
The first two episodes of The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox are available to stream now on Hulu.
