The Department of State Services (DSS) has categorically debunked a viral social media claim that it arrested Evangelist Ukpo Daniel for allegedly circulating a false video of an attack by suspected herdsmen during a crusade in Agboda Village, Nasarawa State.
In a statement issued Wednesday in Abuja, DSS Deputy Director of Public Relations and Strategic Communications, Ms. Favour Dozie, described the Facebook post as "false, misleading and capable of inflaming public tension."
Dozie stressed that the allegation was "incorrect and appears intended to cast the Service in bad light."
"For clarity, Evangelist Ukpo Daniel was never invited nor arrested by the DSS," she declared.
The DSS revealed that the evangelist's wife, Elizabeth Ukpo who authored the original Facebook post claiming her husband had been detained by the Service later confirmed to operatives that she and her husband were actually at the Police Headquarters in Lafia when the post was made.
