Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 8 (UNI) The Kerala Railway Police has registered 72 cases across the state as part of a special safety drive titled "Operation Rakshita", launched to strengthen the security of train passengers, particularly women.
The joint initiative by the Kerala Railway Police and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) follows a recent incident in which a young woman was assaulted and pushed from a moving train, sustaining injuries.
The inspections are being carried out under the direct supervision of Railway Police Superintendent Shahanshah K S Over the past few days, extensive checks have been held inside trains and in station premises across Kerala.
The initiative aims to ensure passenger safety, maintain discipline and vigilance, uphold law and order, and prevent assaults and other crimes in trains and stations.
The drive includes breathalyser tests in various station limits to detect passengers travelling under the influence of alcohol, round-the-clock monitoring of CCTV cameras in station premises, and security inspections with the support of the Bomb Squad and K9 Squad.
An adequate police force has been deployed to deter potential offenders and instill confidence among passengers. Officers from the Railway Police, RPF, and ticket inspection teams are jointly participating in the exercise, which will continue in the coming days.
Passengers can report emergencies during train journeys by contacting the police through the emergency number 112. Incidents can also be reported through WhatsApp at 9497 93 5859 by sharing photos, videos, or text messages, and the identity of informants will be kept confidential. Railway police services are also available on 9846 200 100, 9846 200 150, and 9846 200 180.
