TAIPEI (Taiwan News) -- The Alishan Forest Railway and Cultural Heritage Office announced a series of special maple viewing excursions in December featuring the historic steam locomotive No. 31 and classic cypress-wood carriages.

The scenic trips will operate on five successive weeks, Dec. 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30, offering passengers the chance to enjoy the autumn foliage along one of Taiwan's most iconic mountain railways. Each journey will visit one of the line's most picturesque and lesser-known stations, known as a hidden gem for maple viewing, per Liberty Times.

Tickets, priced at NT$3,100 (US$101) per person, include the train fare, meals, a professional tour guide, and a souvenir. Each trip will be limited to 100 passengers, with bookings opening on Nov. 18.

Nature photographer Huang Yuan-ming (黃源明) will serve as the trip's guide, leading participants to exclusive photo spots. Dance performances will also be held at Zhushan Station and Duigaoyue Station, while passengers can take in panoramic views of Alishan's famous "sea of clouds" from the vintage steam train.

Travelers will also be treated to handmade lunch boxes featuring local specialties prepared by members of the Tsou Indigenous tribe. For full itinerary details and booking information, visit the official website.
