September means that Wednesday Season 2 is finally among us, and many viewers have already binge-watched all eight episodes. The series took one spooky yet beloved family and brought them back to the forefront, and fans couldn't be happier about that. However, there's no denying the fact that Wednesday has taken some risks, changing the Addams Family canon here and there, but especially in Season 2. That has plenty of fans working on theories for what may potentially occur in Season 3 or beyond. Until the next season drops, we won't know if any of these theories are true, but they're still fun to think about.
Wednesday Season 2 hasn't even been available for a full month, yet Netflix has already assured fans there will be a Season 3, not to mention teasing a potential spin-off series. Things are going well for the Addams Family, even when their lives have become a bit more chaotic. Warning: This article contains spoilers for Wednesday Season 2.
Ophelia Frump has been coming into conversation more and more lately, as Wednesday strives to gain control over her powers. Up until the conclusion of Wednesday Season 2, fans had yet to actually see Ophelia grace the screen.
This brings us to one theory about Season 3; back during the time of The Addams Family (1964), one actress, Carolyn Jones, portrayed Morticia and her sister, Ophelia. It stands to reason that we may see this happen again. In fact, Wednesday Season 1 already leaned on this trick once, when Jenn Ortega portrayed not just the titular character, but her ancestor, Goody Addams.
With this logic, we may see Catherine Zeta Jones pulling double duty, portraying the amazing Morticia Addams alongside the tortured Ophelia Frump.
Season 2 introduced the Stonehearsts, with Augustus Stonehearst being the type of Normie genius set on taking away the powers of Outcasts (in order to make them his own). Augustus successfully created his dangerous machine, gifting his daughter, Judi, the power of an Avian.
It may be reasonable to assume that this part of the story ended with their deaths. However, there are a couple of key points to recall. First, the original Avian was never revealed. We know that Judi's powers were stolen, just not from whom. We'd be tempted to presume the Avian is dead, except that the one-eyed crow was seen flying during the Season 2 finale.
The crow is a reminder that there are still parts of this plot left unresolved. Given how much the series loves playing with familial themes, it stands to reason that even if the original Avian didn't survive, a family member may just hold a grudge about that.
When Season 2 began, Enid arrived as a competent and liberated werewolf. She walked like a woman who has freshly found her place in the world, and a lot of that has to do with unlocking her werewolf form. However, what was once a point of celebration for Enid quickly becomes a very concerning complication.
It begins when Enid transforms outside of the full moon. This is strange, even from Enid's side of things. The concern grows when Miss Capri confronts Enid about it. Long story short, Enid is revealed to be an alpha werewolf. They're dangerous and powerful, but they tend to be loners. Worse, they can't transform during the full moon, or they risk getting stuck that way. It seems like, for being an all-powerful werewolf, alphas have more risks than benefits.
Here's the thing: Enid grew up in a werewolf family, attended a school full of werewolves, and even got to run in the pack for a summer. How come nobody ever explained the risks of an alpha wolf to her? This is doubly strange, given Capri's claim that late bloomers are at higher risk of being alphas. One would think that somebody would take the time to educate and warn Enid.
Unless it's all a lie. Capri's story has already made it clear that she's willing to lie. At best, she's lying to the school about who she really is. She also lied about her "only" Hyde connection. Now that she's run off with Tyler, her words feel even more suspect. What if she wanted Enid alone and compromised for some specific reason? This is a very valid concern some fans have.
While some fans are worried that Enid has gotten wrapped up in a lie, others are worried that Miss Capri has very different plans for Enid and Tyler. Reddit user Final_Mix_700 lays out a highly disturbing theory. This theory posits that Miss Capri is a werewolf/Hyde hybrid, and thus, she's interested in keeping her species going.
Translation: she has very specific goals in mind for the likes of Tyler and Enid. It's unpleasant to think about, and there's no doubt that Wednesday would have many strong opinions about this plan. The theory would explain why Capri went out of her way to pick up Tyler, while also working hard at isolating Enid.
It's safe to say that the Wednesday Season 2 finale left a lot of plot threads up in the air, including Tyler's story. The last we saw, he was grieving the loss of his mother (for the second time) and joining up with Capri.
There's a chance that what Capri is offering him is nothing more than a bunch of lies. She could be looking to take control of Tyler; she would hardly be the first. However, there's also a chance that she's telling the truth, and that joining this Hyde pack could be exactly what Tyler needs to gain control of his other half.
Some fans are wondering if Miss Capri is effectively starting up her own version of Willow Hill. A version designed for Hydes and dangerous werewolves. Read into that theory as much as you'd like, because it could lead in many directions from here.
Unsurprisingly, there are a whole bunch of fan theories trying to explain why Grandmama Hester Frump would lock up one of her two daughters. The most obvious explanation is that poor Ophelia succumbed to the madness that ravens are supposedly more prone to experiencing.
This doesn't necessarily explain why Grandmama Frump would lie about it to Morticia, unless she believes that Morticia wouldn't stand for this. She's probably not wrong there, as Morticia had opinions about Ophelia ending up in an asylum.
Some fans argue that, given what Ophelia was writing on the wall, Hester Frump has her daughter locked up to protect others. This could even get more personal, as it's possible she's specifically trying to protect her granddaughter, Wednesday. This would be in keeping with Hester's line about "giving up everything for her family."
While many fans are debating if Grandmama Hester Frump has locked up her daughter for good reasons, others are convinced she's secretly a villain. For example, Reddit user Unique-Piccolo-9199 argues that Wednesday has already played with a few Harry Potter themes/tropes before now, so they may be doing so again.
In other words, the theory posits that what we have here is a new twist on Sirius Black and Peter Pettigrew. One is the villain in the public's eye, while the other is a tragic hero. However, in reality, they're playing the reverse roles. If Wednesday is playing on this theme, it would mean that Hester is playing the role of doting grandmother, but she's really working against Wednesday and the family.
In turn, this would mean that Ophelia doesn't hold ill intent against Wednesday. Her writing on the wall could even be a warning against what Grandmama has planned. It's a haunting thought, but it's the sort of twist that Wednesday would love to run with.
Most fans are hoping or expecting some sort of resolution for Enid's plot. It's hard to forget about Wednesday Season 2 left off with Enid's tale, as she was last seen stuck in werewolf form, hiding out in the woods. Given that Wednesday is officially tracking Enid down (with the help of Uncle Fester), it's safe to assume that this will come to a head next season.
Naturally, most fans expect that we'll see Enid back in her endearing human form. While having a lumbering wolf hanging around may fit Wednesday's aesthetics, this ultimate fate doesn't feel in keeping with Enid's character.
The theories revolving around Enid's recovery vary pretty drastically. Some assume that her connection to Wednesday is what will bring her back, while others believe that it's her own alpha ability that will allow her to take control. Regardless of how, we can all agree it's a matter of when, not if, Enid comes back.
Wednesday is available to stream on Netflix.
