TAIPEI (Taiwan News) -- Tasty rewards await blood donors in Taiwan, as McDonald's launches a campaign offering Big Mac vouchers.
Running Monday through Oct. 31, individuals who donate 250 cc of blood at designated campus blood donation stations can receive a Big Mac voucher. The campaign will be held across more than 95 university and college campuses, according to a McDonald's Taiwan press release.
A total of 25,000 Big Mac vouchers, 6,000 McCafe Americano vouchers, and 6,000 limited-edition eco-friendly tote bags will be distributed. First-time donors are offered an additional incentive: the first 50 first-time donors at each campus will receive a tote bag and a McCafe Americano voucher alongside the Big Mac.
Taiwan's healthcare system requires over two million units of blood annually. However, as the population ages, the proportion of young donors has been declining year by year.
The program was first launched in 2022 by McDonald's and the Taiwan Blood Services Foundation. It aims to reverse this trend by encouraging youth participation in public service.
Data from the foundation shows that over the past decade, the proportion of first-time donors under age 20 has fallen from 14.66% to 9.21%. Since the campaign's launch, more than 88,000 units of blood have been collected, inspiring nearly 20,000 young first-time donors.
