Jonathan Majors Opens Up About Being Dropped By Marvel: "A Heartbreak Like I've Never Experienced"

Andrew Schulz Doubles Down On Kendrick Lamar Comments: "I Hate Having To Explain Jokes"

Jonathan Majors has reflected on being dropped from Marvel, the abuse he endured during his childhood, his fight for Hollywood redemption, and more. In an new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the Magazine Dreams actor recounted the exact moment he found out he was let go from the global franchise.

"He goes, 'I'm just gonna tell you now,'" Majors recalled. "That way you're not surprised, and you can start processing it. They fired you. Marvel fired you.'" At the time, he had just left a highly publicized trial in lower Manhattan. A jury convicted him in December 2023 of one count of misdemeanor third-degree assault and one count of second-degree harassment of his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari, and he was given the bad news in the car. A judge later sentenced him to probation and a 52-week domestic violence intervention program.

During the days after his trial, the Lovecraft Country star said he was having a difficult time grasping the reality of the situation. "There were days when it was like, 'Is this real?' It's a heartbreak like I've never experienced and it just compounded and compounded," he said.

He also opened up about the abuse he endured as a child. "I dealt with sexual abuse from both men and women from the time I was 9," Majors told the outlet. "From people who are supposed to look after you, in the absence of a father. I was f**ked up." The actor told his mother about the abuse more recently, and she apologized about "not being able to protect him."

However, Majors says he's ready to grow from the situation, using his trauma to look deeper within himself. "I'm like, 'It's not even an issue, mom. I just want you to know. And now we can all get busy and continue to connect and grow and learn from it, because it's something that was in our family'... There are no excuses, but by getting help, you begin to understand things about yourself."

Prior to the assault trial, Majors was set to star in indie movie Magazine Dreams, which was successfully premiered at Sundance Film Festival in 2023. It was shelved by Disney's specialty studio Searchlight ahead of its December 2023 release date. It was then picked up by Briarcliff Entertainment and is set to be released on March 21, 2025.

Throughout this tumultuous chapter, Majors has had someone to lean on: Meagan Good. The couple went public around the time of the trial and the Harlem actress stood by his side for all the ups and downs. In a January 2024 interview, he said his lady was to him as Coretta Scott King was to Martin Luther King Jr.

"She's an angel. She's held me down like a Coretta" he said at the time. "I'm so blessed to have her. The relationship is still fresh, but I think I've found her." The two announced their engagement in November 2024.
