Armie Hammer insists he is "turning jobs down" because he is so in demand again. Hammer was once one of Hollywood's brightest shining stars, and he has rubbed elbows with some of the industry's biggest names, including Johnny Depp in The Lone Ranger, Henry Cavill in The Man from U.N.C.L.E., and Timothée Chalamet in Call Me by Your Name. However, troubling sexual assault allegations and accusatory (and arguably overblown) claims of a cannibalism fetish derailed the actor's once astounding career.
Today, though, and almost four years to the day that the controversy began, Hammer appears to be on the comeback trail. And while he doesn't feel "balanced and healthy" quite yet, the actor is getting job offers again, according to what he said during his appearance on the Your Mother's House podcast (per YMH Studios):
"The worm is turning. It takes time. It's slow, but generally now the conversation when my name comes up with people in the industry is, 'Man, that guy got fu -- ed.' And that feels really good. It's really encouraging [...] I'm turning jobs down. Yeah, my dance card is getting pretty full. By the way, that first job that I turned down after four years of this sh*t... I mean, it was the best feeling I've ever had."
Hammer was cleared of sexual assault allegations back in the summer of 2023, but that hardly opened up a pathway for him to rejoin his creative colleague in the Los Angeles limelight. And so, he had to find other ways to make a living. During his exile from Hollywood, the former actor even sold timeshares in the Cayman Islands, which he enjoyed. But now that some time has passed, perhaps Hammer can legitimately make a comeback, having just filmed the Western Frontier Crucible with Thomas Jane and William H. Macy. Though with Hammer stating that he was too poor to "afford the gas" for his truck only four months ago, it's possible he could be exaggerating his newfound success.
Armie Hammer "Subconsciously, Wanted to Get Caught"
Yes, back in August 2024, persona non grata Armie Hammer couldn't even afford to gas up his truck because of how bad things got after being accused of being a cannibal and those sexual assault allegations. Down on his luck and banished from Hollywood, Hammer had plenty of time to reflect on his questionable behavior, which led to some of his darker fetishes and "bedroom conversations" being revealed to the world. And, at least subconsciously, the Call Me by Your Name star admitted that he even "wanted to get caught." Hammer said during the same interview:
"I think somewhere, deep down subconsciously, I wanted to get caught. I think that I so did not relate to the image of me that was out there in the public -- of sort of like this, like, 'Look at them, they're the Ralph Lauren family. They've got the perfect life and the perfect house and the perfect kids,' and like, 'Oh, this sh*t.'
I was like, 'I feel like a fu -- ing alien walking around most of the time.' Like, I don't feel like a human... I feel like a creature. And I have King Creature tattooed on my ass [...] So, if I'm going to be a creature, I'm going to be the king of creatures. I'm going to lean into this."
