Pedestrian suffering from life-threatening injuries after being struck in Howell

FREEHOLD - A pedestrian has suffered life-threatening injuries after she was struck by a car Tuesday in Howell, and the investigation into the cause of incident is underway, authorities said.

At 5:17 p.m., Howell Township Police responded to Route 9 and Lanes Mill Road for a vehicle versus pedestrian crash, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago said.

An initial investigation found that a female driver was traveling north in the left lane of Route 9, and as she approached the intersection near Lanes Mill Road, a collision with a 45-year-old woman from Lakewood occurred, Santiago said. As a result, the pedestrian was taken to a local hospital, where she is being treated for life-threatening injuries.

The driver remained on scene, Santiago said. The identities of the driver and the pedestrian were not released.

An investigation involving members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office, Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and the Howell Township Police Department remains active and ongoing, Santiago said. Anyone with information about this matter is being asked to contact MCPO Detective Nicolas Logothetis at 800-533-7443 or Howell Township Police Department Patrolman Daniel Scherbinski at 732-938-4111.

No charges or summonses have been issued with regard to the incident at this time, according to the prosecutor.
