Home security footage has captured the frightening moment a family's senior poodle was chased out of his own backyard by a much larger predator.
The video, shared on TikTok by Eve Langlais (@eve_langlais), shows her 12-year-old dog, Bowser, urinating in the snow before wandering farther into the yard. He pauses briefly -- then suddenly sprints back toward the house as a coyote appears behind him in full pursuit.
The coyote corners Bowser on the deck and lunges, but the agile poodle manages to dart up the stairs and out of sight. The dramatic clip has since earned more than half a million views.
Coyotes are described as "proficient hunters," according to the International Fund for Animal Welfare. In the caption, the shaken owner wrote: "We almost lost our dog last night to a coyote. It came after our poodle in our fenced in yard. But he was so brave! He fought back."
Langlais added that Bowser was left trembling and refusing to leave her side after the attack. However, the following day she posted another video showing the senior dog roaming the yard again, this time with her close behind.
An update read: "He is doing fine [and] almost back to his happy self. Albeit wondering why his mommy keeps following around while he pees."
Langlais noted that her dogs have been using the yard for 12 years without ever encountering a predator.
While coyote attacks on pets are uncommon, the American Kennel Club (AKC) warns that as natural habitats and food sources shrink, coyotes are increasingly venturing into residential neighborhoods. Although they typically target livestock such as chickens or young lambs, household pets can also be at risk.
