KUCHING (Nov 18): The Graduate Enhancement Training Sarawak-Work Readiness Programme (GETS-WRP) is currently seeking graduates to join the Sarawak Centre of Performance Excellence (SCOPE) for an industry-driven training placement.
According to SCOPE chief executive officer Joseph Lim, the 12-month programme is meant for those who are currently unemployed and seeking structured training and industry exposure.
"Under this placement, they will be attached to SCOPE for three months for soft skills training where they will learn more about communications, entrepreneurship, professionalism, team-building and more," he said when met by reporters after signing the memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Social Security Organisation (Socso) here yesterday.
Adding on, Lim said after the first three months, the participating graduates would transition to job-training for nine months.
"This nine-month on-the-job training is including a RM1,500 allowance provided by the state government.
"The GETS graduates are protected under insurance too, such as travel and medical insurance, for the duration of 12 months.
"This will help them to be ready for work.
"If they're good, the employer can offer them job placements in the government or private sector.
"However, the relocating allowance is up to the employers to pay them," he said.
The programme is applicable to Sarawakian degree holders from public or private institutions, with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.8.
The intake number is kept limited each year, according to Lim.
"TThere will be only 1,000 intakes per year.
"We will have around 70 to 80 intakes per month - and maybe out of the 1,000 graduates, about 60 per cent would land jobs."
Lim further said that through the MYFutureJob platform, the graduates would be matched with potential employers based on their expertise.
"Socso has a MYFutureJob platform, which ensures that the graduates would match the industry requirements."
Meanwhile, Socso Sarawak director Tan Phang Chia said the MoU marked a collaborative effort towards empowering Sarawakian graduates with essential skills, industry exposure and employment opportunities.
"This year, we have around 200 programmes throughout the state, including the MYFutureJobs Carnival, providing opportunities for graduates seeking employment.
"This collaboration can strengthen the development of a more competent, competitive and inclusive workforce, including contributing to economic growth and social well-being in the state," he said.
