Cody Rhodes and Jade Cargill both cut promos on SmackDown after both left Saturday Night's Main Event with titles. As has been the custom, The American Nightmare opened SmackDown yet again.
Ilja Dragunov defeated Johnny Gargano in another United States Championship Open Challenge match. Lash Legend joined the blue brand to help Nia Jax defeat Charlotte Flair.
The Wyatt Sicks continued to creep around backstage as the MFTs tried to reassert their dominance. The Kabuki Warriors pretended to be doctors to assault Flair and Alexa Bliss backstage.
Despite grounds to be slightly upset about how he lost at Saturday Night's Main Event, Nick Aldis suspended Drew McIntyre for hitting a referee with a Claymore kick. WWE made the next four mistakes on the latest SmackDown.
Jade Cargill's entrance on SmackDown was longer than her first promo after winning the WWE Women's title from Tiffany Stratton at Saturday Night's Main Event.
It could be argued that less is more, but The Storm didn't have a problem talking more before winning the belt. Writers probably thought it would have the same impact as Roman Reigns' "It's my yard now" line.
However, some fans wanted to chant "You deserve it" before Cargill cut things short. Her appearance was clearly more about the tease with Charlotte Flair as she was leaving.
Chelsea Green challenged Giulia for the Women's United States title after Giulia surpassed Green's time with the title.
After cowering backstage when Jade Cargill barked at her, The Hot Mess actually defeated The Beautiful Madness to reclaim the title. The problem was, if you blinked, you missed one of WWE's titles changing hands.
The match was extremely short and featured interference from Alba Fyre and Kiana James. Green is certainly one of the most over stars, but due to the rushed nature of the pairing, the match felt like an afterthought.
LA Knight has been extremely unlucky lately. He's lost a few times without being pinned when going for the World Heavyweight title. Instead of getting a one-on-one shot against Punk, he lost out to Jey Uso.
After the title match for the vacant title was set, he lost cleanly to Bron Breakker on RAW. Nick Aldis picked the next two matchups for the tournament to determine John Cena's last opponent. The first pairing was the Miz and Jey Uso.
The second was Knight vs. a mystery opponent. The mystery star is probably someone from NXT, TNA, or a free agent who will likely defeat The Megastar. It feels like officials are punishing him. Can't Jey face the mystery person instead of Knight?
Most faces always claim they want to be fighting champions after winning gold. Few stars have made that promise more than Cody Rhodes. He was willing to fight Drew McIntyre in a suit a few weeks ago after Jacob Fatu's attack.
After justifying his dumping McIntyre on his head on top of the title as "pulling the trigger when he needs to," The American Nightmare claimed he was done with The Scottish Warrior.
He also said he felt like watching SmackDown from the stands to see who deserves the next shot. Isn't the top hero of WWE supposed to be the epitome of a fighting champion?
Thankfully, Aleister Black stopped him from taking a seat in the audience, and the two squared off in the main event. It was just a strange take from the face of the company.
