St. Helena High graduate Ivan Robledo, a sophomore linebacker for Santa Rosa Junior College, led the Bear Cubs with eight solo tackles and a fumble recovery as they won their season opener, 41-38 over host City College of San Francisco on Aug. 30.
Robledo led Santa Rosa with seven solos, including a tackle for a loss, and had four assists in a 27-20 loss to visiting Modesto on Sept. 6.
In a 20-18 loss at Monterey Peninsula on Sept. 13, Robledo had four solos and one assist while Napa High graduate Christoph Horton, a freshman wide receiver-tight end, caught a 20-yard pass.
The Bear Cubs (1-2) were ranked No. 18 in the JC Athletic Bureau/California Community College Football Coaches Poll of Sept. 3 by the California Community College Athletic Association, as announced at 3c2asports.org.
They will host San Jose City College (1-2) at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20.
Napa Valley players earn preseason honors
Seven Napa County players were named to the Cal-Hi Sports Preseason Redwood Empire Team, it was announced at calhisports.com on Aug. 28.
American Canyon running back Andre Lopez, who rushed for 1,862 yards and 25 touchdowns last year, and Vintage kicker Henry Drozdowicz made the First Team Offense. Lopez averaged 7.3 yards per carry and 124.1 yards per game and had 10 games of 100-plus yards rushing for American Canyon (13-2, 4-2 Redwood Empire Conference-Valley). The Wolves won CIF North Coast Section Division 4 title and Northern California Division 5-A Regional Championship and State Division 5-A Championship bowl games.
Drozdowicz was named to the All REC-Adobe First Team and was also the Specialist of the Year.
American Canyon linebacker Jona Budu and Vintage linebacker Bo Lode were named to the First Team Defense.
Named to the Second Team were American Canyon defensive lineman Evan Emmons, Vintage tight end Max Kaufman, and Vintage offensive lineman David Sanchez.
Davis plays for Sacramento State
Diego Davis, a junior inside linebacker from Napa, had four total tackles (three solo stops, one assisted stop) for Sacramento State in a season-opening 20-3 loss to South Dakota State on Aug. 30 at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium in Brookings, S.D.
He had two solo and four assists in a 20-17 loss at Nevada in Reno on Sept. 6, and one solo in a 49-28 win against visiting Mercyhurst of Erie, Pa., on Sept. 13.
Davis, a 2022 Vintage High graduate and transfer from Santa Rosa Junior College, was honored for his outstanding play during the 2024 season. ■
