Apple Releases 26.2 Versions of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS

Apple released today the 26.2 versions of its various software platforms, which include iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, visionOS, and tvOS. This is a rare Friday release for the company, and the updates are quite significant, especially for iPhone users who are getting Liquid Glass tweaks, AirPods Live Translation support in more countries, and CarPlay updates.

Here are the main changes included in iOS 26.2:

AirPods Live Translation in EU: The new Live Translation feature for the AirPods Pro 2 and 3 and the AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation is now available in the EU.

Apple Music: Favorite songs playlists now appear in Top Picks on the home tab, and offline lyrics are now available for downloaded songs.

Podcasts: The app can automatically generate chapters for podcast episodes, and links to podcasts mentioned in the episode appear directly from the player and transcript.

Liquid Glass: It's now possible to give Liquid Glass effects more or less opacity on the lock screen.

AirDrop codes: This new code system lets users use AirDrop with unknown contacts by providing a code on the receiver's device that the sender must enter to complete the transfer.

CarPlay: It's now possible to disable pinned conversations for Messages in settings.

For iPad users, iPadOS 26.2 brings back the Split View multitasking feature that disappeared on iOS 26. iPadOS 26.1 previously brought back Slide Over, another existing multitasking feature that lets users display another app as a small floating window above a full-screen app.

The macOS platform is getting a new Edge Light feature today, which adds a virtual ring light around the display in low-light situations. This can be useful during video calls, and users can adjust the intensity and tone of the effect.

For Apple Watch users, watchOS 26.2 introduces an updated Sleep Score system, as well as enhanced safety alerts to warn users about imminent threats such as floods, natural disasters, and other emergencies. On the Apple Vision Pro, visionOS 26.2 expands the Travel Mode feature to cars and buses, and it also adds support for hand-drawn content with spatial accessories.

Let's wrap up with tvOS 26.2, which adds the ability to add additional user profiles without the need to tie them to an Apple account. When setting up a child's profile, parents will also be able to set up content restrictions that will apply to the Apple TV app.
