The 29-year-old footballer arrested for assault over the weekend has been named as England striker Ivan Toney, according to reports.

On Sunday, it emerged that an unnamed international star had been handcuffed in central London.

Now, The Sun has named the player as ex-Brentford man Toney.

The Metropolitan Police told the newspaper: "We were called to Wardour Street at 12.47am on Saturday following reports of an assault.

"The victim was taken to hospital and his injuries are not believed to be life-changing or life-threatening.

"A 29-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of two counts of assault and one count of affray.

"He has since been released on bail while inquiries continue."

Footage from the 100 Wardour St bar in Soho appeared to show the Al-Ahli forward being led away in handcuffs.

A fan allegedly grabbed Toney by the neck inside the club for a selfie - sparking a confrontation as a result.

A witness revealed the 29-year-old may have felt threatened by the group.

"He's a superstar - he gets half a million a week in Saudi Arabia," he said. "He had his jewellery on and he had a real nice watch."

The eyewitness added that the Three Lions ace may have believed he could have been attacked for his valuables.

"Toney has said: 'Get off me, get off me' and ended up headbutting one of the guys," he alleged.
