TAIPEI (Taiwan News) -- Google on Thursday opened its largest infrastructure hardware engineering hub outside the US, located in Shilin District, Taipei.

The Taipei office follows two existing hardware R&D centers in Banqiao, New Taipei City, per CNA. The new site will focus on testing and developing technologies for Google's global data centers.

The facility is designed to foster collaboration and innovation, incorporating elements inspired by Taiwan's natural and cultural landmarks. It features sustainable designs, achieving 12% energy savings, 46% water reduction, and recycling 73% of construction waste.

Google Cloud Platform development director Greg Moore said the center houses hundreds of employees and more than 10 specialized labs where teams test, validate, and refine next-generation AI hardware before global deployment.

Google said the Taipei hub forms part of a broader ecosystem investment. Technologies developed in Taiwan will feed directly into global data centers supporting services used by billions.

The company has expanded its Taiwan footprint since 2013, beginning with its Changhua data center. It has also built multiple submarine cables and trained more than 100,000 AI professionals so far this year.
