Metro Manila 100% reconnected; Bicol, Northern Luzon still struggle with outages -- DICT

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) reported that Metro Manila has regained full network connectivity, while restoration work continues in Bicol and Northern Luzon where power outages and damaged fiber lines persist following the onslaught of Super Typhoon Uwan.

"Buong Metro Manila ay mayroon nang normal na koneksyon, habang Hilagang Luzon at Bicol Region ang nananatiling pinakaapektado dahil sa pagkawala ng kuryente at mga nasirang fiber lines (All of Metro Manila has regained normal connectivity, while Northern Luzon and the Bicol Region remain the most affected due to power outages and damaged fiber lines)," the agency said on Monday, Nov. 10.

In its latest update as of 9 a.m., Nov. 10, the DICT said overall telecommunications availability stood at 71 percent for DITO, 54 percent for Globe, 74 percent for Smart, and 64 percent for Converge.

The agency said that telecommunications companies are conducting 24/7 restoration work in coordination with the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) to normalize services across all regions within the next 24 to 48 hours.

DICT Secretary Henry Aguda said the department, together with telco operators and other government agencies, continues to work relentlessly to reconnect affected areas, noting that communication is vital in disaster response and recovery.
