Dermer, Witkoff meet in London to discuss hostage talks, Qatar tensions

A source told N12 that the US wants to restart negotiations between Israel and Hamas, and believes that they can begin within the next two weeks.

Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer will meet with US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff on Wednesday evening in London, N12 News reported.

The two will reportedly meet to discuss renewing negotiations for a hostage and ceasefire deal, two sources familiar with the details told N12.

Qatari officials are also reportedly in London, though it is unclear if they'll join the talks after the IDF strike in Doha.

One source told N12 that the Americans are currently negotiating between Qatari and Israeli officials to overcome the diplomatic hurdles that were caused by the strike on Doha, Qatar, which targeted senior Hamas officials. The source added that US officials are urging Israel to de-escalate tensions with Qatar.

A separate source told N12 that the US wants to restart negotiations between Israel and Hamas, and believes that they can begin within the next two weeks. However, the source emphasized that the crisis between Israel and Qatar must be resolved first.

Dermer, US envoy to Syria, Tom Barrack, and Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani discussed a new security agreement proposal earlier on Wednesday in London.

It is not yet clear if any progress was made in the meeting.

The unidentified sources told Axios that a key part of the proposal is maintaining an aerial corridor to Iran through Syria, in the event that Israel would strike Iran again.
