Sushila Karki: First female Prime Minister of Nepal - Peoples' Review

Kathmandu, Sept 12: With former Chief Justice Sushila Karki set to lead the interim government, the country has received its first woman head of government.

Following an agreement reached at the President's Office on Friday evening, Karki will take the oath of office shortly. She will thus assume the country's top executive role as its first woman leader.

Karki had already made history by becoming Nepal's first woman Chief Justice. Nearly eight years after retiring from the judiciary, she has now made history again by becoming the first woman to head the executive branch.

Known for her outspoken and honest nature during her time in the judiciary, she frequently drew public attention.

This turn of events follows the Gen Z protests against social media restrictions, which resulted in the collapse of all three state organs and the resignation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

Immediately after the resignation, President Ramchandra Paudel, with the participation of the Chief of Army Staff, began the process of forming a new government.

Karki will now lead the country through its recovery from the damage caused during the protests and hand over power to newly elected representatives after the next election.
