Indian Capital MMIW speaks on death of San Carlos Apache teen

ANADARKO, Okla. (KSWO) - The Indian Capital Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women in Anadarko has sent a statement to 7News regarding the death of 14-year-old San Carlos Apache teenager, Emily Pike.

The statement reads:

"We as MMIW Indian Capital would like to send our utmost sincere condolences to the community and family of Emily Pike. Our little sister did not deserve this, she had a life to live and many more years ahead of her that were stolen in the most disrespectful and tragic ways. We feel that the systems of the children services, media, and law enforcement have not only failed her but our youth, our babies in the system, our indigenous women, our rights as humans but it will take all of us in the community to build a one to help push for answers, tell her story fight for justice and closure for her family. We share all our love and support and especially our prayers to her family and all of our MMIW MMIP families at this time."

14-year-old Emily Pike went missing on Jan. 27, then over two weeks later on Feb. 14, her remains were found in a remote area near Globe.

Her body was found dismembered and placed in trash bags.

The Gila County Sheriff's Office, Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Indian Affairs are working to find answers.

The tragic incident incited calls from members of the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and tribal members alike across the nation.
