NAGS HEAD, N.C. (WAVY) -- A 33-year-old man was reported dead Sunday afternoon after collapsing into the ocean off Nags Head after experiencing a medical emergency, according to Nags Head Police and Fire.
Police and Fire personnel received the call around 1:34 p.m. in which a man was in distress about 40 yards south of Jennette's Pier in the 7200 block of South Virginia Dare Trail near the water's edge. First responders performed live-saving measures on the man, who was later identified as Michael Anthony Karousos, until medical personnel arrived.
The individual was transferred to the care of Dare County EMS and was later pronounced dead. Preliminary information indicates the incident was the result of a medical emergency and no foul play is suspected.
