Diddy takes aim at 50 Cent's upcoming Netflix documentary series, which debuts on December 2, calling it a hit piece that uses unauthorized footage.

50 Cent's Netflix docuseries, "Sean Combs: The Reckoning," launches globally on the streaming service today (December 2). But a spokesperson for Combs has slammed the piece as "shameful," accusing Netflix of using "stolen footage that was never authorized for release."

On Monday, Combs' representative released a statement that the mogul "has been amassing footage since he was 19 to tell his own story, in his own way," but that Netflix is using his footage and his words out of context. The statement also calls out Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos and says it is "staggering" that the streamer "handed creative control" to Combs' "longtime adversary" 50 Cent.

"Netflix is plainly desperate to sensationalize every minute of Mr. Combs' life, without regard for truth, in order to capitalize on a never-ending media frenzy. If Netflix cared about truth or about Mr. Combs' legal rights, it would not be ripping private footage out of context -- including conversations with his lawyers that were never intended for public viewing. No rights in that material were ever transferred to Netflix or any third party."

A representative for Netflix cited a quote from series director Alexandria Stapleton, who said, "[W]e obtained the footage legally and have the necessary rights."

"We moved heaven and earth to keep the filmmaker's identity confidential," added Stapleton. "One thing about Sean Combs is that he's always filming himself, and it's been an obsession throughout the decades. We also reached out to Sean Combs' legal team for an interview and comment multiple times, but did not hear back."

The latest teaser for the docuseries shows footage of Combs on a phone call less than a week before his 2024 arrest. He was later convicted of transportation for the purpose of engaging in prostitution, though he was acquitted of the more serious charges of sex trafficking and racketeering.
