The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced a major successful week of nationwide operations, resulting in the arrest of 14 suspects, the dismantling of a clandestine 'Colorado' lab in Lagos, and the recovery of illicit drugs weighing approximately 7,645.7 Kilograms (over 7.6 tonnes), along with hundreds of thousands of pills and litres of controlled substances.
The seizures and arrests took place across Lagos, Kaduna, Edo, Kwara, Ogun, Taraba, Ondo and Bauchi states.
Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, in a statement at the weekend, stated that the arrested 14 suspects included a music artist and a lab owner.
"Total Skunk; Loud and Colorado seized 7,599.4 kg includes 1,779kg in Ogun, 2,829kg in Ondo, 1,455kg in Edo, and 77.20kg of 'Loud' concealed in bathtubs from the US.
"Opioids (Tramadol/Exol-5) seized was 647,680 pills/capsules 532,600 pills in Kwara; 84,710 capsules in Kaduna/Bauchi; 30,370 pills in Taraba while Psychoactive Substances, 91 Litres of Dibromobutane and 76.5 Litres of Skuchies and Methamphetamine 177 grams recovered in Taraba"
" The Agency also busts a Colos Lab where Stephen Kelechi Imoh was arrested in Lagos with 16.2kg of freshly cooked Colos and precursor chemicals seized" Babafemi stated.
He added that the noteworthy concealment was 77.20kg of 'Loud' intercepted at MMIA, concealed inside three cartons of bathtubs imported from the United States (US).
The NDLEA chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the operatives and vowed to continue to "target and dismantle every identified drug syndicate" while ensuring they forfeit their proceeds of crime to the Federal Government.
