Felony charges filed against man accused of robbing CFD employees during call on South Side

CHICAGO -- Felony charges have been filed against a man accused of battering officers shortly after he was arrested in connection with the robbery of two Chicago Fire Department (CFD) employees who were responding to a call on the South Side.

Officers said 20-year-old Jaylin Brewster has been charged with two felony counts of aggravated robbery with the indication they were armed, and two counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer.

Officers said the charges were handed down after two CFD employees were able to apprehend Brewster during an alleged robbery in Auburn Gresham.

According to police, the incident allegedly unfolded just before 2 a.m. on Monday, in the 7900 block of South Throop Street, as the two CFD employees were responding to a call in the area.

Officers said while on the scene, Brewster allegedly approached the two men and told them that he was armed with a firearm before stealing an unknown amount of cash from them. But officers said the two men were then able to overpower Brewster during the alleged robbery and held him until police arrived on the scene.

According to police, officers arrived on the scene and placed him into custody but during his arrest, Brewster allegedly battered responding officers. The extent of the officers' injuries is unclear.

The two CFD employees sustained minor injuries during the incident. No weapon was found on Brewster at the time of his arrest, police said.

Brewster appeared in court on Wednesday for a detention hearing.
