Arrowheadlines: Chiefs' Andy Reid leaves door open for Clyde Edwards-Helaire

Chiefs HC Andy Reid leaves the door open for reunion with a former player sometime in the future | A to Z Sports

While speaking to the media about the open roster spot that the Chiefs currently have after releasing Edwards-Helaire, Reid expressed his appreciation for him and mentioned that he would welcome him back if the opportunity arises.

"You know, we released Clyde, so we have a spot available," Reid said. "We've got these injuries that we're juggling here. So, we just got to see how that goes before we move somebody up or down, or whatever [Chiefs GM Brett] Veach wants to do with that thing. But, we sure appreciate Clyde for all he did here. We'd love to get him back sometime too. What a great kid he is.

AFC Playoff Picture: Chiefs Getting One Step Closer to Capturing Top Seed | SI.com

1: Kansas City Chiefs (13-1)*

It's business as usual for Kansas City, but with a twist. Following a Week 15 victory over the Cleveland Browns, all they need is a triumph against the Houston Texans on Saturday and a Buffalo Bills loss or tie to lock up the No. 1 seed in the conference. If the Chiefs tie the Texans and Buffalo loses to the New England Patriots, the same outcome could be achieved. The elephant in the room, though, is the ankle injury to quarterback Patrick Mahomes. With his Week 16 status still uncertain, defeating a visiting Houston team might not be so simple.

Kingdom Christmas: Chiefs to debut Claymation film Christmas Eve | KCTV5

The Chiefs said the team will save Christmas by bringing a busy family together around a Chiefs game, empowering all to believe in their dreams and the magic of the season.

It will debut on the Chiefs YouTube Channel and Chiefs social channels ahead of the team's Christmas Day game in Pittsburg against the Steelers. The game will stream on Netflix and air on KCTV5.

"Christmas is such a magical time, and our team was looking for a way to deliver something special for all of Chiefs Kingdom before our Christmas Day game streaming worldwide on Netflix," Lara Krug, Chief Media and Marketing Officer for the Kansas City Chiefs, said. "The Claymation style elicits a nostalgic feeling, and we think many people will be able to relate to some of the family scenes that are featured in the short. We are all very proud of this original program and look forward to our fans being able to enjoy a memorable Chiefs story on Christmas Eve."

The Chiefs Built a Dynasty With a Superstar QB and Savvy Finances | SI.com

This has been a pretty historic period for the Chiefs and it all starts with Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid, and after that, Chris Jones and Travis Kelce.

And while those guys carry more than their weight, the front office deserves credit for building a sustainable model around them -- one that consistently features a deep supporting cast. And it's even more impressive when you really dig into the numbers.

So, over this particular five-year period (from 2020 to '24), the Chiefs are actually -- by one set of internal numbers we obtained -- 18th in the NFL in cash spending at $1.151 billion. That's more than $200 million, or a staggering $40 million per year, behind the league-leading Cleveland Browns who spent $1.362 billion over the same stretch. The 49ers ($1.298 billion), Philadelphia Eagles ($1.287 billion), New Orleans Saints ($1.264 billion), Miami Dolphins ($1.259 billion) and Buffalo Bills ($1.251 billion) are all at least $100 million, or $20 million per year, ahead of the Chiefs, too.

Browns to bench Jameis Winston, start Dorian Thompson-Robinson vs. Bengals | NFL.com

The Browns are benching turnover-prone Jameis Winston in favor of second-year QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson for Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported Tuesday.

The move ends Winston's seven-game tenure as Cleveland's QB1 following Deshaun Watson's season-ending Achilles injury. Those seven games saw some offensive highmarks for the Browns, but ultimately too many low moments marred by turnovers.

Winston threw for 2,121 yards and 13 touchdowns this season, but he also had 12 interceptions, including eight over the past three games -- all losses.

Falcons name rookie Michael Penix Jr. starting QB over Kirk Cousins | Yahoo Sports

Falcons head coach Raheem Morris wasn't ready to commit to a starting quarterback at his Tuesday afternoon news conference.

It didn't take him long after to make a decision. Hours later, the Falcons announced that rookie Michael Penix Jr. will take over at starting quarterback for Kirk Cousins. The No. 8 pick in April's NFL Draft, Penix will make his debut as an NFL starter on Sunday against the Giants (2-12) in Atlanta.

"After review we have made the decision Michael Penix will be the Atlanta Falcons starting quarterback moving forward," Morris said, via a statement released by the Falcons. "This was a football decision and we are fully focused on preparing the team for Sunday's game against the New York Giants."

Titans making QB change for Week 16, benching Will Levis | ESPN

The Tennessee Titans are planning to make a switch at quarterback for Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts, a source told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler on Tuesday.

Mason Rudolph is the logical candidate to step in for starter Will Levis, who was benched in Sunday's game after committing four turnovers in a 37-27 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Levis was replaced by Rudolph in Sunday's game after throwing his third interception of the game, a pick-six by Bengals safety Geno Stone.

Callahan said he was going to take the next couple of days to make his decision when asked about the possible change Monday.

"You try to do best by all players involved, and the guys getting ready to go play games on Sundays want to feel like we're going to put them in position to win," Callahan said.

Andy Reid gives updates on Steven Nelson and Hollywood Brown

When he spoke with reporters on Tuesday, head coach Andy Reid was predictably vague about the team's plans for either player.

"[We're] just seeing them [and] how they're doing every day here," he told his listeners. "Stevie will probably need a little bit more time than maybe what Hollywood will need -- but let's take it day-by-day with those guys and see where this thing goes."

Reid also played another well-used card: deferring to general manager Brett Veach.

"We've got these injuries that we're juggling here," he noted, "so we've got to see how that goes before we move somebody up or down -- or whatever Veach wants to do with that thing."

Pressed for specifics about how Brown had looked during Friday's practice -- his first one back with the team -- Reid was willing to go into a little more detail, saying that Brown's doctors reported the wideout's surgery has "healed up nice."
