Saba Qamar has responded to a controversy after a petition was filed against her for wearing a police uniform without proper authorisation.
The petition, filed by Wasim Zawar at a sessions court in Lahore, claims that no individual is legally allowed to wear a police uniform or display the badge of a Senior Police (SP) officer without official permission.
The issue surfaced after a video circulated showing Saba in a dressing room wearing an SP uniform.
Addressing the matter on Instagram, Saba wrote:"Dear Mr Chomu! Were you expecting her to play a police officer in a bridal outfit or a lawn suit with abadeg? Because last I checked, characters are dressed according to the role, not your imagination."
Reports noted that Saba had worn the Punjab Police uniform as part of her costume for the 2023 drama Serial Killer, in which she portrayed Superintendent of Police Sarah Sikander.
The drama was produced with a valid no-objection certificate (NOC). However, the issue arose over the circulation of behind-the-scenes videos and photographs on social media, outside the drama's broadcast.
The petitioner argued that Qamar violated provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code related to impersonation and misuse of official insignia.
He claimed that such imagery could mislead the public and harm trust in the Punjab Police, framing the act as unlawful and disrespectful.
The petitioner also mentioned that an earlier request to register a case at Old Anarkali Police Station had not been acted upon, prompting the court filing.
Additional Sessions Judge Ilyas Rehan heard the petition and sought comments from the police, adjourning the proceedings until January 14.
Fans and fellow actors have expressed support for Saba, defending her use of the uniform as part of her professional role.
