KUCHING (Nov 23): The Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) has officially launched its solar installation initiative at Rumah Abus Junau, Nanga Jelai Batang Oya in Dalat to expand renewable energy utilisation.
This initiative further reinforces the organisation's commitment to advancing sustainable community development in Sarawak, SEDC said in a statement.
Among those present were Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine, district representatives and members of the longhouse community.
SEDC Head of Group Corporate Communications Nur Khairanie Nasya Jasni said this year's initiative, themed 'Brightening Communities, Empowering Futures', is part of SEDC's annual corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, which emphasises long-term social impact and environmentally responsible development.
She highlighted SEDC's commitment to promoting green technology adoption and supporting Sarawak's sustainability aspirations.
The project provides residents of Rumah Abus with a more stable, dependable and cleaner energy solution, including 18 solar lamps installed at the longhouse 'ruai' and 15 solar-powered streetlights along community paths, enhancing safety, connectivity and quality of life.
"SEDC continues to demonstrate its broader role beyond economic development, prioritising community upliftment and long-term environmental stewardship," the corporation said.
It added that such CSR initiatives strengthen SEDC's commitment to enhancing essential community infrastructure, encouraging environmental awareness and green practices, and delivering programmes that contribute meaningfully to community and environmental progress.
"We remain committed to fostering sustainable development across Sarawak and will continue implementing initiatives that support social well-being, environmental responsibility and long-term community resilience," it said.
