Liverpool hero signs contract termination with European club ahead of becoming free agent

Liverpool have waved goodbye to some iconic names in the past several years.

Most recently, Richard Hughes sanctioned the sale of Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich, overruling Arne Slot on that transfer.

Diaz played a key role in the Reds winning their second-ever Premier League title last season, and he's now thriving at Bayern.

Elsewhere, Sadio Mane was part of a lethal frontline at Liverpool, which also featured Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.

Though said trio took a lot of the plaudits in the Jurgen Klopp era, we can't forget what Divock Origi did for the club.

In May 2019, Liverpool faced FC Barcelona at Anfield in the second leg of a Champions League semi-final.

The Merseyside outfit were 3-0 down ahead of kick-off, but managed to mount a 4-0 comeback to reach the final and eventually win the competition.

Origi scored twice in that match, including the infamous 'corner taken quickly' goal with 11 minutes remaining to complete the turnaround.

The Belgian then left Anfield in 2022 on a free transfer to sign for AC Milan, but his time in Italy is coming to an end.

Origi has fallen out of favour, and as per Fabrizio Romano, he's set to terminate his contract and become a free agent in January.

He wrote, via X/Twitter: "Divock Origi, available as free agent from January as he's just signed his contract termination at AC Milan.

"30-year-old striker was out of AC Milan squad and project since summer 2024."

The now 30-year-old scored 41 goals and provided 17 assists in 175 matches for Liverpool.

But he struggled to find the back of the net in Milan, scoring just twice in 36 appearances.

Would the Reds be open to a return this winter now that he's set to become a free agent?

Well, Alexander Isak is now injured for the next few months, and recent reports say Liverpool want a forward in the coming window.

Origi may have had a few difficult seasons since departing England, but Jurgen Klopp has previously praised the striker's finishing.

Speaking after his exit in 2022, as per the Mirror, Klopp said: "Divock Origi, the legend, finished it off and it's a great story. He's an incredible striker. For different reasons he did not play that often, but I hope one day he finds a manager that plays him more than I do.

"He's one of the best finishers I've ever seen in my life. In this great team, with our [front] three, he doesn't play all the time, but he is a very positive boy, loves the club, wants to contribute, and he did in an incredible way."
