Police issue update after villagers evacuated in bomb scare

Police have issued an update after bomb disposal units were called to a village just over the Oxfordshire border.

Northamptonshire Police's Explosive Ordnance Disposal team was called to King's Sutton, a village near Banbury, on Tuesday morning following reports of a suspicious item.

Householders have been evacuated as a 'precautionary measure' while the bomb disposal units respond to the incident, the police force said.

A Northamptonshire Police spokeswoman said on Tuesday: "Police officers were called to an address in Dairy Ground, Kings Sutton, at about 8.30am this morning (December 23) to reports of a suspicious item.

"Local residents have been evacuated as a precautionary measure whilst the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team (EOD) respond to the incident however, we are satisfied that there is no wider risk to members of the public."

On Wednesday, the police force revealed that the item 'turned out not to be viable'.

The spokeswoman added: "There have been mo arrests or charges and no offences were committed."
