EXCLUSIVE: Diana Son will receive the WGA East's Richard B. Jablow Award for Devoted Service at the 78th Annual Writers Guild Awards ceremony in March.
Son, a member of the WGA East since 1999, is a showrunner, writer, producer and playwright. She has been co-emcee of the WGAE's Showrunner Training Academy since its inception in 2021, serving as a guiding force behind one of the guild's signature training programs.
Her recent credits include executive producing on the Amazon series Butterfly and the National Geographic series Genius: Aretha. She was also a co-showrunner of Season 1 of Thirteen Reasons Why and has been a writer/producer on a number of series including American Crime, Dirty John, Law & Order: True Crime, Southland, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, and Do No Harm. She began her television career as a staff writer for The West Wing.
"I've been a proud member of the WGAE since my first staffing job in 1999," Son said in a statement. "I've benefitted from our union's advocacy in countless ways so it's been both a privilege and imperative for me to work on programs that help open doors and empower other guild members. I'm so moved and humbled to now be honored by my union which has given me so much."
Son will receive the award on March 8, 2026, at the Edison Ballroom in New York.
The award is named after the guild's first counsel who helped found the guild and authored its constitution. It will be presented to Son by its most recent recipient, Kathy McGee. Past honorees include Claire Labine, Herb Sargent, Ernest Kinoy, Stephen Schiff, James Schamus, Warren Leight, Chris Albers, Courtney Simon and Tom Fontana.
