10-year-old girl dies from rabies two months after stray dog bite - Egypt Independent

A 10-year-old girl has died from complications related to rabies, approximately two months after she was bitten by a dog inside a residential compound in the 6th of October area, Al-Dostor reported.

The medical report from Abbassiya Fever Hospital stated that the victim, Jouri M., was transferred to the intensive care unit immediately after rabies symptoms appeared, but could not be saved.

She passed away due to a sharp drop in blood circulation and cardiac arrest.

The report noted that the girl arrived at the hospital in critical condition, with symptoms pointing to a rabies infection. It was also discovered that she had not received any vaccinations or preventive treatment after the bite, which occurred around 60 days ago.

Investigations by Giza Security Forces revealed that the girl had arrived in Egypt last February with her mother and five siblings.

The family had come to Egypt for the treatment of her sister, who suffers from a chronic illness.

They all resided in the Digla Palms compound. After a while, the mother left with one of her daughters to continue the treatment, leaving the rest of the children in Egypt.

According to the Al-Dostor report, the investigations indicated that about two months ago, Jouri was bitten by a stray dog under their building but did not receive the necessary serums or medical care at the time, leading to her death.
