Moonlight Memory Walk raises £28k for children's hospice

Hundreds of people have enjoyed an emotional moonlight charity walk for a children's hospice.

More than 230 people took part in the night-time walk at The Lost Gardens of Heligan on Saturday, November 8, in aid of Children's Hospice South West (CHSW).

The annual Moonlight Memory Walk has so far raised £28,000 for the charity, which runs the Little Harbour children's hospice in Porthpean.

Participants, many of whom proudly wore handwritten dedications to loved ones, attended a special memory ceremony, where their dedications played on screen.

This was followed by a one-minute applause and silence.

The walk had several poignant spots for participants to pause and remember their loved ones by lighting a candle, picking a charm for a keyring, leaving a name and message for their loved one in a book, and leaving a fingerprint on a canvas.

Kiley Pearce, events fundraiser for CHSW, said: "We would like to thank our participants, many of whom have attended Moonlight Memory Walk for the last 15 years.

"The evening had a real balance of being emotional, but also uplifting, and we encouraged our walkers to think about the magical moments they had with their loved ones, and share these memories on the evening."

The event was made even more special with poems read by Hannah Blackett, a bereaved mum who was supported by Little Harbour, and a live performance by the St Mewan Community Choir.

Kiley added: "Thank you to St Mewan Community Choir, and Toby Davies for singing and creating a beautiful atmosphere at Heligan, and to the Cornish Oven for providing pasties at the finish line."

Little Harbour provides free support to children with life-limiting illnesses and their families, including respite, palliative care, end-of-life care, and bereavement support.

The Moonlight Memory Walk was kindly sponsored by CHX products, Stephens Scown Solicitors, and Toad Hall Cottages, ensuring that all the sponsorship raised can go towards the vital care and support offered to local families.

The evening was also supported by CTC Medical Services and The Cornish Oven.
