Celtic Decide to Hire Martin O'Neill if They Sack Wilfried Nancy

Celtic have already decided who will replace Wilfried Nancy if he is sacked as manager. The French boss is already under serious pressure after a disastrous start to his time in Glasgow.

Since taking charge earlier this month, Celtic have lost four games in a row under their new boss -- their worst run in 47 years -- leading them to be on the cusp of a disastrous campaign by their own high standards.

Six points behind league leaders Hearts, struggling in the Europa League and failing to win the Premier Sports' Cup Final against St Mirren last week means that Nancy is not a popular figure among fans and as a result, his fate could be decided before his bags are even unpacked.

Celtic Have Nancy Replacement Lined Up

Should Nancy be dismissed as Celtic boss, the club are expected to re-appoint Martin O'Neill on an interim basis until the end of the current season, according to Football Insider.

Hailed as 'incredible', O'Neill is a Celtic legend having won three Premiership titles and finishing as runner-up in the Europa League back in 2003.

With Brendan Rodgers resigning in October, O'Neill stepped in a caretaker capacity and won seven of his eight games in charge at Parkhead.

Now, he could be given another opportunity to step in and try to rescue Celtic's season.

The report states that Nancy could be sacked if he fails to win his next two matches against Aberdeen and Livingston in the next seven days.

Having only been in charge for two weeks, it would a huge statement to get rid of the Frenchman after such a short period of time.

O'Neill Addresses Prospect Of Celtic Return

Martin O'Neill has already responded to suggestions of a Celtic return after being quizzed on talkSPORT about whether he would have stayed in charge if Nancy wasn't appoinited.

"Only if asked," said O'Neill last week when asked by talkSPORT if he would have stayed on. "That was not a driving force. I'd happily have stayed on.

"If they had asked me to stay on, I would've done so, but the minute that they said, 'no, that's your time', that's fine by me."

If things don't improve quickly under Nancy then the Northern Irish boss could find himself back in the hot seat before long. The season is there to be rescued, but the board will be praying that the former Columbus Crew boss can turn things around to help them avoid having to make a difficult decision.
