Several questions have been raised about Jalen Hurts' performance and the team's offense as the Philadelphia Eagles' struggles continue. NFL insider Eliot Shorr-Parks was asked on Monday who between the quarterback or Eagles offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo is more likely to be replaced midseason.
"I think there's 0% chance they replace Jalen Hurts this season," Shorr-Parks said, via the "WIP Morning Show." "None."
He emphasized that barring injury, Philadelphia will not take Hurts off the field.
"Jalen Hurts is never playing a snap for the Eagles again," Shorr-Parks said. "There's no taking him off the field and bringing him back next year."
However, he views Patullo differently. The insider put the possibility at "20 or 25% because if it truly gets bad, they will have to do something."
Shorr-Parks also shared his take on how the team's front office interprets the offense's decline. According to him, the organization has long recognized Hurts' limitations, and past coaching and supporting talent helped mask them.
"If you put Howie Roseman on truth serum, he would tell you the main reason the offense is struggling right now is Jalen Hurts' play," Shorr-Parks said. "They probably believe the coaches are better at their job than Jalen is at his job."
Shorr-Parks added that Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie values Hurts' leadership and reliability beyond on-field performance.
"He's a person that you can put anywhere and will represent them well," Shorr-Parks said. "You don't have to worry about getting a call at two in the morning."
He also noted that Hurts delivered a Super Bowl win for Lurie, making the owner less inclined to move on quickly.
Jalen Hurts reportedly asked before the season to reduce designed quarterback runs, a shift that has coincided with a drop in Philadelphia's rushing production. Hurts has just 84 carries this year, down from 150 last season, and the Eagles have dropped to 22nd in rushing.
When asked about the change, Nick Sirianni said the focus is on protecting Hurts.
"We're always thinking about how to protect Jalen and help this offense get rolling," Sirianni told reporters on Monday.
Sirianni also confirmed that Kevin Patullo will remain the play-caller despite growing criticism.
"We have to change some things... None of us are doing a good enough job right now," Sirianni said.
Philadelphia ranks 24th in total offense and averaged 15.5 points over its last four games as pressure mounts on the unit.
