Albany Med named top employer by Forbes survey amid nurse contract and insurance tensions

NEW YORK (WRGB) -- Despite ongoing controversy over union contracts for nurses who claim frequently understaffed shifts and insurance company negotiations looming near the end of the deadline, Forbes has named Albany Medical Center one of the best employers in New York State.

Forbes joined with Statista Inc., a statistics portal and industry ranking provider, to asked more than 160,000 people working for large companies across several business sectors including health care and social services how likely they would be to recommend their current employer to others. The company also collected data from similar surveys given to friends and family of employees or those working in similar industries.

Hospital officials say Albany Medical Center "has continuously invested in initiatives to grow and support its workforce. More than half of the hospital's total budget is dedicated to salaries and benefits and offers numerous advantages and wellness programs."

The Albany Med Health System issued a warning in November, that it may soon become out-of-network for CDPHP customers, as a financial dispute between the two organizations intensifies. Negotiations with the New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA) have been ongoing since April, still with no resolution.
