Storm Team 3: Sunny today with late day showers tomorrow

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) - Sunshine continues for your Saturday, and it's shaping up to be a beautiful day overall. After a cool start this morning, temperatures will climb into the mid 70s by the afternoon. It may feel a bit breezy and occasionally chilly, but the bright sunshine will make for a pleasant day. With low relative humidity today along with this breeze and drought conditions, an elevated fire risk continues today.

Clouds will gradually increase on Sunday, with highs once again reaching the low to mid 70s. A weather system moving in from the west will bring a chance for isolated showers late Sunday afternoon and evening.

Scattered rain is expected on Monday, followed by on-and-off showers through Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday as that slow moving system lingers. Temperatures will stay on the cool side, with highs near 70 on Monday, then dipping into the mid to upper 60s for the middle of the week.

By Friday, the system finally moves out, allowing sunshine to return and wrapping up the week on a brighter note. Keep those jackets and umbrellas handy though. You'll need them for the cooler, damp stretch ahead before we dry out again to end the week.

In the Tropics...

Tropical Storm Melissa is slowly churning through the central Caribbean Sea and is expected to strengthen into a hurricane soon. The warm ocean waters and low wind shear could allow it to rapidly intensify into a major hurricane (Category 3 or higher) over the weekend. Melissa's slow movement makes it especially dangerous, as it could dump torrential rain, up to 35 inches (about 89 cm) on Jamaica, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic, leading to severe flooding and landslides in mountainous regions. The storm is forecast to drift toward Jamaica before turning gradually toward eastern Cuba and the Bahamas early next week. The U.S. is out of the threat zone as Melissa makes that northward turn and heads up to Bermuda after moving through the Bahamas.
